In February 2020, we held our first public service in Reykjavik with 13 people attending.
What an incredible, history-making experience, as it was the first public service held by a UPCI missionary appointed to the country! We planned to continue in March but sadly, the service was scheduled on the weekend that Iceland began shutting down its borders in reaction to the Covid-19 epidemic. Rather than work on service plans for March 15, hours were spent on the phone trying to reschedule our flights for exit before the border closed completely. Thankfully, we made it home to Helsinki in time!
Unfortunately, the borders remained close for an elongated period of time, and we were unable to return to the country for over 2 years due to Covid plus other reasons. Thankfully, ministry within the country has restarted and we have Associates in Missions workers working in the capital. Praise God!
